It will be a lot easier all around if you do your puppy leash training as early on as possible. It is much harder to try and retrain a grown dog full of bad habits.
Communication and patience are the two key ingredients. You are the leader and the boss and you should bear this in mind at all times. Your puppy is looking to you for leadership and security.
You will need to be consistent. You will also need to make sure that the family are also carrying through all the things you are putting in place.
If you are not all singing off the same sheet, then your dog will become confused and all your training and hard work will be undone.
